As a young Maasai girl in a remote village in Tanzania, I faced countless challenges: poverty, illiteracy, and the constant threat of early marriage. But thanks to Nuru Girls, an innovative educational program, I was given a chance to reclaim my future.

Nuru Girls was founded in 2009 by Jamie Johnson and Christine Hillas, two American women who were deeply moved by the plight of Maasai girls. Today, Nuru Girls operates two secondary schools in northern Tanzania: a residential school in Boma Ng’ombe and a day school in Arusha. Students also receive comprehensive health and life skills education, which empowers them to make informed decisions about their own lives.
